만든 이유
오래된 사진, 작은 썸네일, 캡처한 그림을 크게 쓰려고 하면 이미지가 흐릿하게 뭉개지기 쉽습니다. 전문 편집 프로그램의 AI 확대 기능은 유료인 경우가 많고, 무료 서비스는 회원가입이나 워터마크를 요구하거나 이미지를 서버로 올려야 합니다. PixelUp은 이런 불편 없이, 이미지를 밖으로 보내지 않고 웹 브라우저에서 바로 쓸 수 있는 업스케일러를 목표로 만들었습니다.
사용하는 기술
업스케일에는 오픈소스 모델인 Real-ESRGAN을 사용합니다. Real-ESRGAN은 실제 사진에서 생기는 흐림, 노이즈, 압축 손상을 흉내 낸 데이터로 학습되어, 단순히 크기만 키우는 것이 아니라 손상된 부분을 함께 복원하는 것이 특징입니다. 사진에는 범용 모델을, 일러스트에는 애니메이션 그림체에 맞춰 학습된 모델을 씁니다. 노이즈 감소에는waifu2x 모델을 씁니다.
이 모델들은 ONNX Runtime Web을 통해 이용자의 브라우저 안에서 실행됩니다. 브라우저가 WebGPU를 지원하면 컴퓨터의 그래픽카드로, 지원하지 않으면 CPU로 계산합니다. 서비스의 서버는 웹페이지와 모델 파일을 내려주는 역할만 합니다.
이미지를 다루는 원칙
- 이미지는 이용자의 브라우저 안에서만 처리하며, 서버로 전송하거나 저장하지 않습니다.
- 그래서 운영자는 이용자의 이미지를 볼 수 없고, 공개하거나 AI 학습에 쓸 수도 없습니다.
- 결과는 브라우저 탭에만 있으며, 탭을 닫으면 사라집니다.
- 회원가입을 받지 않으므로 이름, 전화번호 같은 개인 정보를 요구하지 않습니다.

운영과 광고
PixelUp은 사이트 운영 비용을 충당하기 위해 페이지에 광고를 표시할 수 있습니다. 광고는 업스케일 기능이나 결과 이미지에 영향을 주지 않으며, 결과 이미지에 워터마크를 넣지 않습니다.
